Careers at DBT of Northern VA.

Effective care begins with supporting our therapists.

Effective client outcomes begin with clinicians who feel appreciated and supported. We value flexibility, competitive pay, strong supervision, sustainable case loads and continued learning because they keep clinicians engaged and motivated. We care about one another and believe in cultivating lives worth living, including our own.

“Burnout is not the price you pay for caring. It is the result of caring without support.”

  • DBT Center of Northern Virginia welcomes applications from master’s-level or equivalent clinical counseling and social work interns who are interested in developing strong foundations in evidence-based care.

Interns have the opportunity to observe, shadow, and co-lead groups with licensed clinicians while gradually building an individual caseload appropriate to their training level. Interns receive both individual and group supervision and are invited to participate in consultation team, trainings, and practice events.

Our internship program emphasizes skill development, clinical confidence, and sustainability in the counseling profession. Interns gain experience in caseload management, clinical documentation, and the self-care practices necessary for long-term effectiveness as a clinician.

This placement is well suited for students seeking structured training, strong mentorship, and exposure to DBT-oriented treatment in a supportive environment.

    What interns can expect:

    • Individual and group supervision

    • Opportunities to observe and co-lead DBT skills groups

    • Gradual development of an individual caseload

    • Training in clinical documentation and professional responsibilities

    • Inclusion in practice trainings, consultation, and community events

    • A supportive learning environment focused on growth and competence

  • DBT Center of Northern Virginia welcomes applications from provisionally licensed therapists seeking high-quality training, supervision, and experience within an evidence-based, DBT-oriented practice.

Our mission is to provide structured, effective, and compassionate treatment grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and other research-supported modalities. We are seeking clinicians who are motivated to develop strong clinical skills, engage in consultation, and grow within a supportive team environment.

Provisionally licensed therapists receive consistent individual and group supervision, clinical guidance, and opportunities to deepen their competence in evidence-based care. Clinicians gradually build and manage a caseload while participating in consultation team, trainings, and practice events. We value curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn.

This role is well suited for clinicians seeking a clear clinical framework, strong mentorship, and preparation for long-term success as independently licensed providers.

    What we offer:

    • Training and experience in DBT and other evidence-based approaches

    • Flexible scheduling with full-time caseload expectations typically around 20–25 clients per week

    • A collaborative, supportive team culture with ongoing training opportunities.

Pre-doctoral and post-doctoral clinicians receive individualized supervision, participate in consultation team, and gain experience delivering evidence-based treatment to a diverse client population. Candidates have opportunities to provide individual therapy, co-lead or lead skills groups as appropriate to training level, and develop advanced clinical judgment within a structured treatment model.
